Barry studied film in Hollywood. As a film director, cinematographer, and producer his educational and dramatic short films have won major awards in New York, Chicago, and Houston, and have been broadcast nationally on CBC Television. He is a lifetime member of The Canadian Society of Cinematographers.

His most notable film Lost In The Woods is credited with saving lives and was widely distributed to schools, Boy Scout and Girl Guide Troops, along with Parks and Recreation organizations throughout Canada and the United States.
